Nonprofit Accountant

Salaried Position | Hybrid | Full-Time

Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000

Introduction

The Nonprofit Accountant at Girls For A Change (GFAC) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting and finance. This role involves ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), managing financial records, and preparing financial reports. The ideal candidate is a confident, creative, and energetic self-starter passionate about girl empowerment and community engagement.

The Nonprofit Accountant will report the CEO.

Key Responsibilities*

Accounting and Finance:

  • Oversee all aspects of accounting and finance.
  • Investigate and reconcile discrepancies in accounts receivable, payable, and payroll.
  • Prepare and make bank deposits weekly.
  • Audit purchase orders and invoices.
  • Maintain accurate records, including journals, ledgers, receipts, and invoices.
  • Run monthly payroll for personnel and contractors.
  • Annual filing of IRS 990s, W2s, and 1099s.
  • Prepare quarterly financial reports for the board.
  • Conduct annual physical inventory.
  • Create annual budgets for programs and operations, and quarterly forecast adjustments.
  • Attend weekly and biweekly meetings with the CEO and other staff.

 

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Understand all financial-related grant or contract compliance requirements.
  • Meet reporting deadlines, both internal and external, and support program staff to maintain compliance.
  • Review monthly financial statements, P&L, and GL Detail, and prepare JVs for necessary corrections.
  • Prepare and/or review budgets for proposals for assigned and new programs.
  • Prepare timely financial reports and invoices required by funding agencies (federal, state, or private) for assigned programs.
  • Complete monthly billing for each award, including voucher billing.
  • Set up new grants in MIP, following Agency standards.
  • Prepare reconciliations and supporting schedules for all external audits and monitoring visits.
  • Gather and provide support related to audit requests.
  • Complete the grant closeout process for any grant ending under your responsibility.

Operational Efficiency:

  • Provide input to and assist in the maintenance of finance office accounting policies and procedures.
  • Take initiative to improve efficiencies in finance office operations, procedures, and contract/grants management.
  • Act as backup, as necessary, for other finance office staff.

 

HR Support:

  • Assist with HR policies and procedures.
  • Oversee onboarding, compensation, and benefits for all staff.
  • Operational Efficiency:
  • Provide input to and assist in the maintenance of finance office accounting policies and procedures.
  • Take initiative to improve efficiencies in finance office operations, procedures, and contract/grants management.
  • Act as backup, as necessary, for other finance office staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of accounting experience.
  • Grant accounting experience preferred.
  • QuickBooks certification required.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit fund accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Additional Requirements

  • The position requires travel, after hours, and weekend programming.
  • Accounting managers typically oversee the work of accountants, review financial statements, and prepare reports for senior management.
  • Develop and implement internal accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
